Kansas State Wildcats coach Collin Klein has the team off to a 3-0 start in his first season
Collin Klein should receive high grades for the job he has done in the first three games of his career as the Kansas State Wildcats coach.
The Wildcats are 3-0 after going undefeated during the non-conference portion of the schedule. They won the games by a combined score of 136-30, including a 71-3 victory against the Nicholls Cowboys in the opener at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
That was followed by a dominant win over the Washington State Cougars, whose only points came on an interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter. Last week's victory against the Tulane Green Wave was the most impressive. The Green Wave made an appearance in last year's College Football Playoff but were outmatched against the Wildcats.
Here's what Tulane coach Will Hall had to say about the job Klein has done so far: "They're a really good football team. My hats off to them and Coach Klein. They play football the right way. They play great complementary football. That's why going into this game they dismantled both of their opponents."
Now, Klein has a chance to do something special. The Wildcats open the Big 12 conference schedule Saturday on the road against the Cincinnati Bearcats. A win would give them their first 4-0 start since 2012. If you recall, that was when Klein was the starting quarterback. He led the team to an 11-2 record and a Big 12 championship before falling to the Oregon Ducks in the postseason.
The Wildcats still have a way to go before getting on the national radar. After being unranked in both preseason polls, they are still fighting their way into the Top 25. That likely won't happen until they at least reach five straight wins. But the Wildcats are gaining confidence with each victory and momentum will only improve as the season progresses.
