Kansas State Wildcats safety Wesley Fair struggled his consistency last season but is thriving under new coaching staff
Everything went according to plan at the start of last season for Kansas State Wildcats safety Wesley Fair.
He was in the starting lineup for the first six games in what he called his first real experience with Big 12 conference football. And then the second half of the season began.
That's when things began to somewhat unravel but Fair is back for his senior year and looking for more consistency.
"Last year was definitely a learning year for me," Fair said during spring football practices. "It was disappointing that I started the year off pretty good and I kind of hit a slump and kind of didn't bounce back. I definitely had my mind on it all offseason. I'm just going to continue to work on it so I can really have a breakout season."
Fair finished with 36 tackles and three pass breakups. The Wildcats coaching staff thinks highly enough of him to allow him as one of the team representatives at conference Media Day in the coming weeks.
Fair said adjusting to a new staff has been a breeze. After coach Chris Klieman abruptly resigned following last season, the Wildcats hired Collin Klein.
"This whole spring training has just been about getting better in the weight room, stronger, faster," Fair said. "Obviously, with a new coaches, just learning as much ball as I can from them. We've got some really good."
For Fair, the new start has sort of energized his drive to improve. He feels it could lead to good vibes throughout the roster.
"I loved the old coaching staff," Fair said. "This coaching staff has so much energy and they bring that every day. I love that. Just the change is going to be great for the team, great for the future. I'm excited."
