Kansas State Wildcats safety Logan Bartley had a key interception in Saturday's victory against the Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas State Wildcats safety Logan Bartley was arguably the biggest hero on the defense in Saturday's victory against the Kansas Jayhawks in the Sunflower Showdown.

He had a key interception in the second half that swung momentum. The Wildcats were holding onto a 25-24 lead but the Jayhawks were driving. Bartley ended up intercepting KU quarterback Isaiah Marshall in the end zone to help the Wildcats close things out.

Here's what K-State coach Collin Klein had to say about the performance of Bartley during the game. Klein stopped just short of saying Bartley is among the hardest workers on the team.

“Oh, I was so excited for him," Klein said. "I mean, there's not anybody that works harder or has been more invested in everything that we've done and are doing from the get-go. And how hard he competes, and for him to step up and make that play, big time.”

It was the first interception of Bartley's collegiate career. A native of Naples, Fla., he also has 25 tackles this season. He is considered among the leaders on the defense.

In the post-game press conference, he spoke of the importance of his performance. He said it was rewarding to finally see his hard work paying off. Now, he wants to take it to another level.

“It felt great, man," Bartley said. "It felt like the time was coming. Finally got my first one off the board now, so let's do it.”

The Wildcats have now won 18 straight games in the series. It also seems like they could dominate this game for many years to come. Both programs are headed in the opposite directions. The Wildcats are working their way back to becoming national contenders under Klein while the Jayhawks are on the verge of a coaching change if the struggles continue.
