Kansas State legend Micheal Bishop is now an offensive assistant for the Houston Cougars, the Wildcats' opponent this week.

Michael Bishop was one of the best quarterbacks in NCAA football history when he played for the Kansas State Wildcats. 

Now, Bishop is in a different position. 

He gets to face his former team this Saturday when the Wildcats play against the Houston Cougars at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Bishop is now an offensive assistant with the Cougars. 

He will go up against first-year Wildcats coach Collin Klein, who has gotten to know Bishop overs. Like Bishop, Klein was also a standout quarterback for the Wildcats.

"Over the years, I have definitely gotten to know him better," Klein said during his weekly press conference. "I respect him tremendously." 

Bishop was the Wildcats' quarterback when the program was rising under coach Bill Snyder brought the school to national prominence. After being a bottom-feeder, the Wildcats became a national contender while Bishop was under center. In the late 1990s, K-State was at the center of the national football universe. 

Check out Bishop's stats during his senior season in 1998: At the time, he broke the school record with 2,844 yards passing and 23 touchdowns with four interceptions, He also had 748 yards on 147 carries with 14 touchdowns. 

The beauty of this matchup is Klein has similar stature in Manhattan when he played in the early 2010s. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist when he led the Wildcats to an 11-3 record his senior season in 2012. That year, K-State won the Big 12 title before losing to the Oregon Ducks in the Fiesta Bowl.  

This week is a huge game for both teams. It will give one of them an edge in the Big 12 standings. Both teams have one loss, with the Cougars losing to the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Wildcats falling last week on the road versus the Cincinnati Bearcats. 

OTHER INJURY UPDATES 

-Tight end Will Anciaux has been ruled out for the season after sustaining a lower leg injury in the Cincinnati loss. 

-Klein said receiver Jaron Tibbs had a good week of recovery during the bye week. There is no timetable on his return but there is a chance he could play this week against the Cougars. 

-Freshman tackle Oliver Miller remains day to day with injury as do backup quarterbacks Blake Barnett, Dillon Duff and Jacob Knuth. The Wildcats only had one available quarterback against the Bearcats. Expect for the Wildcats to update their status perhaps Friday morning or sometime before Saturday's game.
