The Kansas State Wildcats have won 17 straight game against the Kansas Jayhawks in the Sunflower Showdown

The Kansas State Wildcats have been dominant against the Kansas Jayhawks in the Sunflower Showdown.

The Wildcats have won 17 straight in the series, dating to 2008. No one knows the pain of losing this game than K-State coach Collin Klein. He was a member of that team that fell to the Jayhawks. And it wasn't close. KU rolled to an easy 52-21 win in Lawrence.

During his weekly press conference, Klein looked back at the game. He said the reminder is why there is no way the Wildcats will enter with overconfidence.

"Well, I was there the year before too, and I think the pain of that one and living it firsthand, personally, was real," Klein said. "I think that '09 team, we were building."

Both teams are entering this game on losing skids. The Wildcats have lost two straight, falling to the Cincinnati Bearcats on the road in the Big 12 opener and losing at home to the Houston Cougars. The Jayhawks have lost three of the last four games, with the only win coming in a blowout against Middle Tennessee State. The Jayhaws (2-3) lone other win came against Long Island University in the opener.

Despite the record, they have shown signs of improvement. They went toe-to-toe with the Utah Utes for three quarters before things got out of hand in the fourth. The Utes are among the favorites to win the Big 12 conference title.

So the Wildcats are in no position to look past this game and toward the remainder of the schedule.
