Virginia transfer Ja'Son is expected to lead the Kansas State Wildcats secondary this season
The Kansas State Wildcats football team feels it hit the jackpot in the transfer portal by picking up former Virginia Cavaliers defensive back Ja'Son Prevard.
He is among the top rated players who were in the portal during the offseason. Last year he had 24 tackles, three interceptions and eight passes defended for the Cavaliers, earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference honorable mention honors.
Here's a look at some of his highlights from a year ago.
Prevard enters the season with high expectations. He is already the top-rated K-State defender on this year's version of the EA Sports College Football video game. Prevard should help the Wildcats make up for the losses of Marques Sigle and VJ Payne, who are now pursuing their careers in the NFL.
So consider Prevard the early X-Factor for the K-State defense this season.
RUNNING BACK PRIMED FOR BREAKOUT YEAR
Kansas State Wildcats running back Joe Jackson worked his way up to the starting spot last season.
Now, he has the chance to improve on last year's breakout season. He is expected to enter the fall training camp as the No. 1 back. Last year he rushed for 911 yards on 169 carries and eight touchdowns. Jackson made nine starts last season on the way to earning Third-Team All-Big 12 honors.
Here's what NCAAF Nation posted about Jackson on its X account: "I thought Jackson did a great job taking over as RB1 last season and he really stepped up as a leader for the Wildcats. In his career he's rushed for 1,139 yards 9 Touchdowns averaging 5.4 ypc. He also caught 28 passes for 182 yards 2 TDs."
WILDCATS CHASING FOUR-STAR EDGE RUSHER
Kansas State football has offered another high-level prospect in the 2028 class.
Four-star edge rusher Steven McClendon, who currently attends Douglas County High School in Douglasville, GA. Last season, he had 51 total tackles, four sacks, and eight tackles for loss.
"Blessed to receive an offer from Kansas State University," McClendon tweeted on Tuesday night.
