Kansas State Wildcats coach Collin Klein fielded a question from star defensive back Wesley Fair at Big 12 Media Day
There are positives and negatives of college football media days.
The pros are is they give fans the first chance to hear from their favorite star players and coaches. It signals the beginning of the season after a few months of down time. Preseason camp is only a few weeks away.
Then there are the cons. This is mostly from a media standpoint because players are often asked the same questions year after year.
What are your expectations?
How much weight did you gain?
What do you need to improve on?
Etc.
That was much of what happened at Big 12 Media Days last week in Frisco, Texas, but at least the Kansas State Wildcats found a way to break up the monotony. Coach Collin Klein had spoken nearly for 12 minutes during his press conference. It was when the moderator said he had time for one final question.
He then motioned to someone standing in the back of the room.
"How's it going," the voice said.
Then a familiar face appeared. It was Wildcats defensive back Wesley Fair.
"Wesley Fair, Kansas State football," Fair said, imitating how reporters identify themselves before asking a question. "So I got a question for you. Being a former quarterback, do you find yourself cheering for offense or defense? How do you go about that?"
Klein offered his answer.
"Well, I think I need to answer that by what's on the line of who wins or loses," Klein said. "After that dinner we had, I think I remember which one I wouldn't want to be on."
"I like the sound of that," Fair said with a smile, ending the conversation.
It was perhaps one of the lightest moments of the event. If anything, it proves Klein is already comfortable enough around his players to participate in jokes. That's a good sign of a coach getting quickly acclimated to his new surroundings.
