There's been some frustration with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his decision with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Similar to last offseason, the four-time MVP quarterback is taking his time making his decision on whether he's returning to the team or not. It's affecting the organization's outlook on the position, as they teeter between sticking with former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard or moving forward with someone in the Draft.
Still, the looming frustration indicates Rodgers' return, which could spill more bad news for Howard's aspirations for the top position. Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger discussed Rodgers on a recent episode of his podcast, constantly lauding the four-time MVP as next season's signal-caller.
"How is Aaron not coming back when you have those kinds of weapons? Like, what are we doing? There is no way he's not coming back," Roethlisberger said on Tuesday afternoon. "I think it’s a shoo-in. I don’t see how he doesn’t [come back]. Aaron, just let us know, man. You know you can do that and just say, 'Hey, I'm coming back.'"
Pittsburgh added former Indianapolis Colts receiver Michael Pittman Jr., creating a dynamic one-two punch with him and DK Metcalf. Roethlisberger thinks Rodgers will marvel at the weapons the team has at wide receiver.
But once again, he didn't mention Will Howard. Part of it may be frustration with Rodgers pending his decision, but part of it may be the general narrative that Rodgers will hold the keys again next year.
"To me, that is just gigantic," Roethlisberger said. "Now, you've got DK [Metcalf], him, and obviously you still have Roman Wilson, who we believe is a really good talent and a guy they need to use more. I still think there is an opportunity to go get a guy somewhere in the Draft. You got the picks. We talk about draft capital and being able to use that draft capital to make these moves, but yeah, that is a big one. I know Aaron [Rodgers] has gotta be happy."
Still, Roethlisberger has been a huge supporter of Howard and his lauds for Rodgers are likely for him to continue being the main signal-caller as the former Wildcat watches him on the bench.
