From physical blocking to breakout performances by Nik McMillan and Tate Nagy, the Jayhawks are building a versatile, selfless unit ready to ignite an 11-man offensive attack.

Andy Kotelnicki Praises Deep Kansas Wide Receiver Room Ahead Of 2026 Season

Kansas may not have one established star returning at wide receiver, but Andy Kotelnicki likes the number of options emerging for the Jayhawks.

Kotelnicki praised the development of the position group as fall camp winds down, pointing to several receivers who have made plays throughout practices.

“I've been really pleased with him and how he's done,” Kotelnicki said when asked about Nik McMillan. “I think there is a room there in the receiver room that, throughout fall camp, we've kind of dialed things up for every one of those guys individually and they've all been able to show up and make plays.”

McMillan has been among the players putting together a strong camp, but Kotelnicki's praise extended throughout the room.

He said Cam Pickett had performed well before missing several practices while banged up, though he was expected to be ready for the opener. Nahzae Cox has also made plays during camp, while Kotelnicki specifically mentioned the growth of Tate Nagy.

Kansas' expectations for its receivers also extend well beyond catching passes.

Kotelnicki wants the position involved in every aspect of the offense, including blocking and creating opportunities for teammates.

“We're playing truly 11-on-11 football,” Kotelnicki said. “Those guys have done a great job of going there, being physical and playing without the ball.”

Kotelnicki noted that even top receivers only touch the football on a fraction of their snaps. What they do during the rest of those plays can be equally important.

“So, it's either going to open up another teammate or they're blocking for a teammate,” Kotelnicki said. “And so our football team has to embody that.”

With several receivers emerging, Kansas could have multiple options to feature when the season begins.
