Jalon Daniels Set to Make Another Start

Former Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels is preparing for another important opportunity in the NFL as he is set to start for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. With veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield sidelined by a dislocated right thumb, Daniels will make his third consecutive start as he looks to build on an encouraging performance in his previous outing.

Daniels' upcoming start gives him another chance to demonstrate that he can compete at the professional level after beginning his NFL career as an undrafted rookie. According to CBS Sports, Mayfield was ruled out for the matchup, leaving Daniels in line to lead Tampa Bay's offense.

The former Jayhawk is coming off his first NFL victory, helping the Buccaneers defeat the Dallas Cowboys 24-16 on Thursday, Oct. 8. Daniels completed 19 of 25 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown, showing improved efficiency while avoiding turnovers in the win.

That performance represented an important step for Daniels, who had previously struggled to find consistency during his early opportunities. His ability to distribute the football accurately and make decisions under pressure helped Tampa Bay secure its first victory of the season.

According to NBC Sports, Daniels' strong showing against Dallas came after Baker Mayfield was unable to return to practice because of his thumb injury. The Buccaneers will once again turn to the rookie as they attempt to keep their momentum going.

The challenge will be significant against a Pittsburgh defense that will look to disrupt Daniels and force him into difficult situations. The Steelers enter the matchup following a 34-22 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, giving them confidence heading into their road game against Tampa Bay.

Daniels will need to continue making smart decisions, protect the football and take advantage of opportunities downfield. His mobility also provides another dimension to the Buccaneers' offense, allowing him to extend plays and create opportunities when passing lanes close.

For Daniels, the opportunity carries additional significance because of his connection to Kansas football. He spent several seasons leading the Jayhawks, becoming one of the program's recognizable quarterbacks before pursuing his professional career.

Now, he has an opportunity to continue proving himself on the NFL stage. Another productive performance against Pittsburgh could strengthen his case for additional playing time, particularly while Mayfield works toward returning to full health. Jayhawks Roundtable.
