Bill Self Post Game Press Conference After Kansas' 64-61 Road Win Over Texas Tech. Here is everything head coach Self had to say after the Jayhawks pulled out a big road win over the Red Raiders Monday night.
On Darryn Peterson
“He hadn’t made many tonight and he was just kind of out there. He’s got something you’re born with and can’t teach. He’s got an unbelievable ability to raise his level when it counts the most. That’s what he did tonight. Those two plays he made were obviously the two biggest plays in the game for us, but we were fortunate Christian didn’t play and they struggled shooting the ball and scoring too. We just kind of pieced together and made enough plays.”
On the final two and a half minutes of defense:
“I think it was Flory. To me there’s not a defender regardless of position anywhere. He can guard one through five. He did a great job on Watts when he guarded him and he did a great job on JT. You can switch with him. I think Flory had a lot to do with that.”
On Flory Bidunga’s defensive growth this season:
“He’s a lot different player now than he was earlier. He’s learning how to not gamble and reach and launch and make somebody score over his length. He’s doing a lot better job with that.”
On whether the win can be something Kansas builds on:
“I hope so. We’ve come down here often and not left happy, so we’ll take this. We know we were fortunate tonight.”
On Peterson finishing a game and whether cramping affected him:
“I didn’t ask him about cramping. I wasn’t going to give him a chance to say it was. I don’t think he was near as explosive tonight as what he has been, but I know he elevated the last two.”
On Christian Anderson being out for Texas Tech:
“Christian’s a pro. Obviously we would have had to be a much better team if he was on the court.”
On Flory guarding JT Toppin and defensive adjustments:
“I thought he did great. Basketball’s a strange game. JT got two fouls, so that helped us because we could switch instead of edging. There’s a lot of things that probably benefited us.”
On Peterson handling national attention:
“My personal opinion is it’s water off his back. He’s cut different when it comes to that type of stuff. The pressure he enjoys.”
