Here is some of what Darryn Peterson and Flory Bidunga said after Kansas' 64-61 road win at Texas Tech Monday night. Full press conference video and a good portion of the transcript below:
On making a play late:
Darryn Peterson: “He told me go make a play before. He tried to play for me and I didn’t attack, so he got the timeout and told me go make a play.”
On where his confidence came from despite struggling:
Peterson: “The work I put in and then my teammates and coaches. I had a bad game like you said. Shots weren’t really going. They guarded me kind of well. I just trusted the work so I feel like I should make.”
On hearing chants while shooting free throws:
Peterson: “No.”
On whether cramping bothered him:
Peterson: “No.”
On handling national attention:
Peterson: “I kind of embrace that part of the game."
On finishing the game and staying on the floor to the final buzzer:
Peterson: “Great. I’ve been trying to all year. It’s fun to be able to do it. It’s a blessing.”
On how Christian Anderson’s absence affected the defensive plan:
Flory Bidunga: “We were expecting him to play. We were prepping for him to play even though he didn’t play. That’s still a great team. We just had to do our job.”
On Peterson’s late heroics:
Bidunga: “Coach, every time I talk to Darryn, he says, ‘Hey man, go make a play.’ And then he hit two clutch threes. That was crazy.”
On guarding JT Toppin:
Flory Bidunga: “Great matchup. Good player. I really wanted to prove myself, so that was a great one.”
On the interior game plan against Toppin:
Bidunga:“I feel like we’re both left handed, so it’s over the right shoulder before. I just embraced it.”
On Melvin Council Jr.’s impact late:
Bidunga: “He’s been doing it all year. He’s consistent right now. Definitely got to lean on his strength for sure.”
