Kansas Jayhawks Looks to Snap Losing Streak Against Kansas State Wildcats in Sunflower Showdown

Betting Line: Kansas State -4.5

Where: Bill Synder Family Stadium

The Kansas Jayhawks will travel to Manhattan on Saturday to face the Kansas State Wildcats in the 124th edition of the Sunflower Showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, with Kansas looking to end its 17-game losing streak against its in-state rival.

Both teams enter the matchup searching for their first Big 12 victory. Kansas is 2-3 overall after losing to Utah 41-24, while Kansas State is 3-2 following a 35-16 defeat against Houston. Saturday provides both programs with an opportunity to get their conference seasons moving in the right direction.

According to the latest betting lines from CBS Sports, Kansas State enters as a 4.5-point favorite. The over/under is set at 55.5 points, while Kansas is listed at +164 on the moneyline and Kansas State at -198. The odds could change before kickoff.

Kansas will also enter the rivalry matchup without two important contributors. Wide receiver Keaton Kubecka and cornerback Syeed Gibbs have officially been ruled out, according to Heartland College

Kubecka's absence removes another option from the receiving rotation for quarterback Isaiah Marshall. The Jayhawks will need receivers such as Nik McMillan, Cam Pickett and Nazahe Cox to step up and help create opportunities through the passing game.

Gibbs' absence presents a challenge for the Kansas secondary. The cornerback suffered an injury against Utah, and his absence means other defensive backs must take on additional responsibilities against Kansas State's offense.

Marshall will be one of the most important players to watch. His ability to make plays through the air and with his legs could help Kansas attack a Wildcats defense that has struggled in recent games. Kansas must also establish its running game and avoid turnovers that could shift momentum toward the home team.

Defensively, the Jayhawks need to limit explosive plays, improve third-down execution and force Kansas State into difficult situations. Playing disciplined football will be especially important in a rivalry environment.

Kansas State will look to take advantage of home-field support and extend its dominance in the series. However, the Wildcats' recent struggles give Kansas an opportunity to compete if it can execute consistently on both sides of the ball.

The Sunflower Showdown is an important test for Kansas as it attempts to improve its conference standing and prove it can win on the road.  Jayhawks Roundtable.
