On the environment Saturday and handling emotions

Q: The place is going to look like Saturday and the environment and everything. How do you control your emotions knowing there is going to be a lot going on that day?

A: “I’m excited. I know the place is going to be really packed, full of energy, and that’s exciting for us. That just shows how much people here love basketball. So I’m excited to be out here.”

On Bill Self saying it is Kansas versus BYU, not individual matchups

Q: Yesterday coach said it is not AJ versus Darryn, it is Kansas versus BYU on Saturday. Has he talked to you guys about that or do you anticipate him bringing that up?

A: “We play for Kansas. We know it is Kansas against BYU. It is a team effort. We all need to participate.”

On the short game break during the week

Q: You did not have a midweek game this week. What has it been like having a short break and a day off yesterday?

A: “We just want to practice as much as possible to be ready.”

On Elmarko Jackson’s growth

Q: Elmarko had a pretty good game against Kansas State. Can you talk about his growth from before the season to now?

A: “Great player. He is growing, made some crucial plays. I feel like he still has more to show, so I cannot wait to see that.”

On whether Jackson looks like himself again after injury

Q: Does he look like what he did last offseason before the injury?

A: “100 percent. The injury made him sit down for a bit, but I think he is getting there for sure.”

On the upcoming stretch of ranked opponents

Q: You play four top 25 teams in your next five games. How do you stay focused?

A: “We just need to embrace it and take each game one by one. Those games help us grow as a team.”

On what stands out about BYU on film

Q: When you look at the tape for BYU, what sticks out?

A: “They are a great team. We need a team effort to stop them, especially in transition.”

On limiting AJ Dybantsa

Q: When it comes to AJ, what are the things you hope to limit for him Saturday?

A: “He is a good player. You just have to play great defense, be focused and take it step by step.”

On his own play in conference action

Q: What is your personal assessment of your own game the past month and what do you want to focus on moving forward?

A: “There are a lot of areas I need to grow. I just keep stacking days and trying to get better.”
