Bidunga dominated on both ends for Kansas. Now, his standout season forces a massive NBA draft or return decision.

Flory Bidunga’s sophomore season turned him into one of the most productive big men in the country. Now, the Kansas big man has a decision to make.

Bidunga was named a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year on Friday, adding to a list of honors that already includes Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team. He backed it up all season.

Bidunga averaged 13.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game while shooting over 64% from the field. He led the Big 12 in total blocks with 91 and finished among the national leaders in both total blocks and blocks per game. His impact showed up every night around the rim.

Opponents consistently had to adjust when attacking the paint, and Bidunga’s ability to contest and alter shots made him the anchor of Kansas’ defense. He also recorded 13 double-doubles and pulled down double-digit rebounds in 16 games.

The sophomore became the only player in Division I this season to average at least 13 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. Now comes the next step.

Bidunga has the option to enter the NBA Draft, return to Kansas for his junior season or explore the transfer portal. Most projections place him as a second-round pick, with some late first-round potential depending on team needs. His defensive ability gives him a clear role at the next level.

Offensively, most of his production comes around the basket. He has been efficient finishing inside, but continuing to expand his game and add strength could improve his long-term outlook. There are also other factors in play.

Bidunga briefly entered the transfer portal after his freshman season before returning to Kansas, and NIL opportunities could again be part of the equation. There is also uncertainty surrounding the program heading into the offseason.

For now, Bidunga’s impact is clear. What he decides next will be one of the biggest questions for Kansas heading into next season.
