Kansas football added a new option at quarterback Sunday with the commitment of Rice transfer Chase Jenkins, giving Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks an experienced, dual-threat playmaker heading into the 2026 season.

Jenkins, a 6-foot sophomore from Katy, Texas, spent the past three seasons at Rice and is coming off his most productive year as a starter. In 2025, he completed 119 of 172 passes for 1,025 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 531 rushing yards and five scores on 151 carries.

The addition comes at a key time for Kansas, with veteran quarterback Jalon Daniels out of eligibility and a young, inexperienced group returning. Jenkins will enter a competition that includes Cole Ballard and Isaiah Marshall, with freshman Jaylen Mason also set to join the room.

A former three-star recruit out of Alief Taylor High School in the Class of 2023, Jenkins brings starting experience and athleticism to a wide-open quarterback battle in Lawrence.
