Kansas Jayhawks vs Duke Blue Devils Exhibition

The Kansas Jayhawks will play another game on Sunday with one of their biggest preseason tests, hosting the Duke Blue Devils at Allen Fieldhouse in the State Farm Blue Blood Classic.

Kansas, ranked No. 17 nationally, will welcome No. 2 Duke to Lawrence for a noon Central time tipoff. The matchup will air on ESPN and give the Jayhawks an opportunity to measure themselves against one of college basketball’s top programs before the regular season begins. (Kansas Athletics)

The Jayhawks enter the matchup 1-1 in exhibition play after defeating Pittsburg State 80-62 before falling to Louisville 89-83 on Oct. 21. Kansas showed flashes of its offensive potential against Louisville, but the loss also exposed areas the team will need to improve before the games begin counting toward its regular-season record.

Tre White led Kansas against Louisville with 25 points, including four three-pointers, while Melvin Council Jr. added 20 points. Freshman Tyran Stokes contributed 15 points and nine rebounds, giving Kansas another glimpse of what its young talent can bring to the rotation.

The matchup with Duke will provide another opportunity for Kansas coach Bill Self to evaluate his roster, especially with 12 newcomers joining the program this season. Council and White are among the returning players expected to provide experience, while Stokes and fellow freshman Taylen Kinney will look to continue adjusting to the college game.

Duke arrives in Lawrence with considerable momentum after opening its exhibition schedule with two victories. The Blue Devils defeated Tennessee 103-64 on Oct. 20, demonstrating their scoring depth and defensive ability against another highly ranked opponent.

Kansas will need to compete on the glass, limit turnovers and maintain defensive intensity to keep pace with Duke. The Blue Devils' combination of returning talent and promising young players makes Sunday a significant challenge for the Jayhawks. Kansas men's basketball schedule

The history between the programs adds another layer to the exhibition. Duke leads the all-time series 9-7, and the Blue Devils' last visit to Allen Fieldhouse came in 1988, when they won 74-70 in overtime. Kansas later defeated Duke in the Final Four that season on its way to the national championship. Duke's official game preview

Sunday's game is part of the Blue Blood Classic, with Kansas scheduled to visit Duke in October 2027 for the return exhibition.

Although the result will not affect either team's regular-season record, the contest offers valuable preparation before Kansas opens its season against Fordham on Nov. 2.

For the Jayhawks, the goal will be to build chemistry, correct mistakes from the Louisville loss and show they can compete with an elite opponent. A strong performance against Duke could provide confidence heading into the regular season. Jayhawks Roundtable
