First Regular Season Game
Where: Allen Fieldhouse
Betting Line: -22.5 Kansas
Kansas basketball is preparing to take the floor as it welcomes Fordham to Allen Fieldhouse for a matchup that gives the Jayhawks another opportunity to build momentum early in the 2026-27 season. With expectations high in Lawrence, Kansas will look to take care of business at home and continue developing its chemistry before the competition gets tougher.
The Jayhawks enter the matchup with plenty of attention surrounding their roster and the expectations for another successful season under head coach Bill Self. Kansas has several players capable of making an impact on both ends of the floor, and this game provides an opportunity to showcase its depth, offensive versatility and defensive intensity.
The matchup also gives Kansas an opportunity to put its exhibition struggles behind it. The Jayhawks finished 1-2 in exhibition play, including a competitive 90-84 loss to No. 2 Duke on Oct. 25. Despite the results, freshman Tyran Stokes has been one of the biggest positives. Stokes averaged 18.7 points and seven rebounds across the three exhibitions, including a 27-point performance against Duke. His ability to score, rebound and create opportunities for teammates will be important throughout the season.
Another player to watch is fifth-year forward Tre White, who averaged 16.7 points during exhibition play and knocked down a team-high nine three-pointers. Senior guard Melvin Council Jr. also averaged 10.7 points while providing experience and leadership in the backcourt. Meanwhile, Kansas fans could get their first look at former Purdue forward Trey Kaufman-Renn, who has been working his way into playing shape.
Fordham should not be overlooked. The Rams finished last season with a 17-15 record and went 8-10 in Atlantic 10 conference play. Forward Rikus Schulte is one of their most important returning players after averaging 10.7 points and 9.1 rebounds last season. Fordham also brings back size in its frontcourt with Akira Jacobs and Abass Bodjia. The Rams won both of their exhibition games heading into Monday's matchup.
Betting Lines

Kansas has an opportunity to make an early statement and show why it remains one of the top programs in college basketball. The Jayhawks have also won 53 consecutive home openers, giving them another impressive streak to protect at Allen Fieldhouse.
