Kansas Awaits NCAA Tournament Seed on Selection Sunday
Selection Sunday has arrived, and the Kansas men's basketball team will soon learn where it will begin its run in the NCAA Tournament. The bracket will be revealed shortly after 5 p.m. CST on CBS, and most projections have Kansas landing between a No. 4 and No. 5 seed.
Kansas enters the tournament with a 23–10 record after reaching the semifinals of the Big 12 Conference Tournament. The Jayhawks opened the tournament with a close quarterfinal win over the TCU Horned Frogs before falling to the Houston Cougars 69–47 in the semifinals. Houston advanced to the title game, where Arizona completed a dominant season by winning the Big 12 Tournament after also claiming the conference’s regular-season title.
Even with the loss, Kansas still brings a strong résumé into Selection Sunday. The Jayhawks finished 9–9 in Quad 1 games and 7–1 in Quad 2 games while going undefeated against Quad 3 and Quad 4 teams. Kansas also played one of the toughest schedules in the country, ranking third nationally in strength of schedule according to Bart Torvik.
Most bracketology projections place Kansas on the No. 4 seed line. ESPN’s projection from Joe Lunardi had the Jayhawks as a No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region with a potential first-round matchup against Cal Baptist. Lunardi has since moved them down to the No. 5 line. If Kansas advances in that projection, it could face either Arkansas or McNeese State in the second round.
Other projections vary slightly. CBS Sports lists Kansas as a No. 4 seed in the East Region against High Point, while The Athletic projects the Jayhawks as a No. 4 seed in the South Region against Hofstra.
Some projections drop Kansas to a No. 5 seed after the Big 12 semifinal loss. Bart Torvik’s model gives the Jayhawks a No. 4.7 seed, with possible opponents including Akron, McNeese State, Yale or Northern Iowa.
Across most projections, Kansas’ range remains between a No. 4 and No. 5 seed. The official bracket released tonight will determine where the Jayhawks start their March run. Kansas fans wondering where the Jayhawks will land, check out their official spot on JayhawksRoundtable shortly after the selection show.
