Kansas Sets Program Record With 700 Yards of Total Offense
Kansas football had one of its best offensive performances in program history Saturday, putting together a record-breaking afternoon in a 55-0 victory over Middle Tennessee.
The Jayhawks finished the game with 706 yards of total offense, setting a new single-game school record. According to Kansas Athletics, Kansas finished with 480 rushing yards and 226 passing yards while scoring 55 points.
The rushing attack was the biggest reason for the historic performance. Kansas ran the ball 58 times and averaged 8.3 yards per carry. The Jayhawks also scored six rushing touchdowns, showing how much control they had at the line of scrimmage throughout the game.
Dylan Edwards led the way for Kansas with 137 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Edwards was able to consistently find openings in the Middle Tennessee defense and gave the Jayhawks an explosive weapon out of the backfield.
Quarterback Isaiah Marshall also had a strong performance on the ground. Marshall finished with 110 rushing yards on 11 carries, becoming another major part of Kansas' rushing success.
The passing game was also effective when Kansas needed it. Marshall completed 13 of 22 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown. His biggest throw came in the third quarter when he connected with Nahzae Cox for a 34-yard touchdown, giving Kansas a 34-0 lead.
The Jayhawks continued to pile on points even after Marshall left the game. Jalen Dupree, Chase Jenkins and Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman each added rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
The performance was especially impressive because Kansas did not need to rely on one player. Edwards had his three-touchdown game, Marshall contributed both through the air and on the ground, and the rest of the running backs continued to produce late in the game.
Kansas' offensive line also deserves credit for the record-breaking performance. The Jayhawks averaged more than eight yards every time they ran the football and finished with 36 first downs. Kansas also converted seven of 12 third-down opportunities.

The offensive explosion also came at the perfect time for Kansas. After struggling to consistently produce during losses to Missouri and Arizona State, the Jayhawks showed what the offense can look like when everything is working together.
Kansas now improves to 2-2 and will have a much bigger challenge next Saturday when it travels to No. 13 Utah. According to 247Sports' Kansas coverage, the Jayhawks will have to carry the confidence from Saturday's performance into one of their toughest games of the season.
The 706-yard performance will go down as a memorable day for Kansas football. More importantly, the Jayhawks showed that they have the offensive talent and rushing ability to make a major impact as conference play continues.
