No. 14 Kansas Jayhawks Baseball Travels to BYU With Big 12 Title on the Line
Kansas baseball enters the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to accomplish something the program hasn’t done since 1949: win a regular-season conference championship.
The No. 14 Jayhawks head to Provo for a three-game series against BYU while holding a one-game lead atop the Big 12 standings entering the final stretch of conference play.
Head coach Dan Fitzgerald said the team responded well following last weekend’s sweep against West Virginia.
“We had a great practice on Tuesday,” Fitzgerald said. “The guys were in great spirits, got a lot of work done and had great energy.”
Kansas sits at 37-15 overall and 20-7 in Big 12 play, matching the program record for conference wins in back-to-back seasons. The Jayhawks can clinch at least a share of the conference title with two wins this weekend and secure it outright with a sweep.
The pitching rotation will again be led by Dominic Voegele, who takes the mound Thursday night against BYU left-hander Wayland Crane. Mason Cook is scheduled to start Friday after allowing two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six outings.
Offensively, Kansas will lean on key bats like Josh Dykhoff, Brady Ballinger, Jordan Bach, and Augusto Mungarrieta as the Jayhawks try to rebound from a difficult offensive weekend.
BYU enters the series at 26-25 overall and 13-14 in conference play, coming off a strong road win over Texas Tech and a midweek run-rule victory over Utah Valley.
Kansas has won five of the last six meetings between the two programs, including a series sweep in Provo two seasons ago.
Regardless of this weekend’s outcome, the Jayhawks have already secured a double bye in the Big 12 Tournament and will open postseason play May 21 in Surprise, Arizona.

Seattle Seahawks Land Steal with Emmanuel Henderson Jr.
The Seattle Seahawks might have just found a gem. Emmanuel Henderson Jr. is officially off the board, and for where he was taken, this feels like a steal. He was one of the few bright spots for Kansas last season, finishing with 766 receiving yards and five touchdowns while also making an impact in the return game. The upside is easy to see.
Henderson’s speed jumps out immediately. He can stretch the field, create big plays, and flip momentum as a returner. That 214 yard, two touchdown game against Cincinnati showed exactly what he can be when everything clicks.
He is not a finished product, but late in the draft, that is what you are betting on. Traits and ceiling.
Seattle gets a player who can contribute on special teams right away and develop into more in the offense. If he puts it together, this could end up being one of the better value picks from this class. Low risk, high upside. That is a win.
