Taylen Kinney’s Post Adds Fuel To Tyran Stokes Buzz As Kansas Pushes For No. 1 Class
Kansas is already sitting on one of the top recruiting classes in the country, but the buzz around No. 1 recruit and five-star forward Tyran Stokes picked up again Tuesday morning, this time from within the class itself.
Taylen Kinney, a current Kansas signee, posted a photo on his Instagram story alongside Stokes from the McDonald’s All-American setting, immediately sparking speculation. It doesn’t mean anything definitive, but in today’s recruiting world, those connections matter. And more importantly, they get people talking.
Stokes has narrowed his decision down to Kansas and Arkansas, and the Jayhawks continue to feel like a real player here. That’s notable considering his NIL deal with Nike while KU is an Adidas school, but Stokes has consistently said that won’t factor into his choice. At this point, it’s about fit, development and opportunity. The fit in Lawrence is obvious.
Kansas is bringing in a strong group with Kinney, Trent Perry, Davion Adkins and Luke Barnett. It’s already a class with depth and versatility, but what it doesn’t have yet is that clear centerpiece. That’s where Stokes comes in. He’s a true two-way wing who can score, defend and immediately raise the ceiling of the entire group. Add him, and this class has a real shot to finish No. 1 nationally.
There’s been noise around Bill Self’s future after the early NCAA Tournament exit, but he shut that down quickly, calling the rumors “bad info.” Still, roster makeup matters. Self is expected to make his retirement decision soon. A group like this , young, talented, and built to grow together, is exactly the type of situation that could keep a Hall of Fame coach energized.
It’s unrealistic to expect full continuity in today’s transfer portal era, but Kansas has pieces worth keeping. Flory Bidunga, Bryson Tiller and Elmarko Jackson all showed flashes, and if even a couple of those guys return, the foundation is strong.
Landing Stokes wouldn’t just boost a ranking. It would tie everything together: the class, the roster, and maybe even the direction of the program moving forward.
And for now, even something as simple as a post from Kinney is enough to keep that momentum rolling.
