The LSU Tigers Women's basketball team had been cruising through the SEC over its last few games, but Sunday posed a harder challenge as the No. 24-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide came to town.
It might as well have been a non-conference opponent on the other side as the Tigers completely dominated the game with a 103-63 victory over the Crimson Tide.
LSU improves to 21-2 on the year and 7-2 in conference play. They have not looked back since those two losses to open the SEC season.
Alabama was 19-3 entering this game. They had picked up big wins over the Georgia Bulldogs and Kentucky Wildcats. This was no slouch of a team.
It was the first time that Kim Mulkey's squad had reached 100 points against a conference opponent since January of 2025, when they scored 107 against the Oklahoma Sooners.
The offense was getting whatever they wanted. The Tigers finished with a 56.1/47.6/82.6 split as a team, and that dropped after the bench started coming in. Late in the game, they were still shooting above 57% from three as a team.
They finished 10-of-21, which is fairly uncharacteristic. It was their best shooting performance of this SEC season, at least.
Jada Richard had a fantastic day as she led all scorers with 16 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field. She hit three shots from beyond the arc, which was one shy of her career-high. Richard also added four rebounds and four assists.
The leap that the sophomore guard has made this year, and over the past couple of weeks in particular, has been incredible to watch. She's scored at least 10 points in her last six games and is now above 40% from three on the season.
It's no wonder that the Tigers' offense was moving so easily with Richard stepping up in addition to having Flau'jae Johnson, Mikaylah Williams and MiLysia Fulwiley. Teams just get no break from the scoring barrage.
That's before even mentioning the performance of the front court as well. Kate Koval finished with eight points and nine rebounds, with three blocks. She also had a nice steal to a shot transition that showcased her athleticism.
ZaKiyah Johnson had a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. She hit the second three-pointer of her career, in as many games.
There's not much to complain about in this game, so the mood should be high as they head into a rematch with the No. 4-ranked Texas Longhorns on Thursday night.
