LSU Tigers' struggles deepen with another SEC series loss to the Texas A&M Aggies. Pitching falters, offense sputters, amplifying roster concerns. NCAA tournament hopes dim as sweep looms.
Things continue to worsen for the 2026 LSU Tigers baseball team, now falling 7-2 to the Texas A&M Aggies. The Tigers now fall to 23-17 on the year, drop their second straight SEC series and lose for the sixth time in seven games.
Head coach Jay Johnson made waves after Friday night's loss when he spoke about poor roster construction and "deep-rooted" problems leading to the struggles of the season. A lot of the same issues reared their heads in this loss.
William Schmidt has been one of the better starters this season, but he got lit up in this game. He went 5.1 innings, giving up all seven of the Aggies' runs across seven hits and four walks.
The bullpen was more reliable than they have been at times this season, but it didn't really matter because the offense never made Texas A&M uncomfortable.
Aiden Sims, the Aggies' southpaw starter, went seven innings and allowed just two runs on three hits with two walks. Steven Milam hit a solo shot, continuing his solid individual turnaround. The only other run was manufactured in the fifth inning.
This certainly won't be a performance that changes the ever-lowering national opinion of this LSU squad. Now they must win on Sunday to avoid yet another sweep. They only have four more series left before the SEC tournament. At this point, they're going to need to turn things around quickly to even make the NCAA tournament next month.
That turnaround starts on Tuesday night at home against the New Orleans Privateers.
