The only way to describe the last week for the LSU Tigers is a disaster. Sunday's loss to the Sacramento State Hornets marked a series loss and their fourth loss in the last calendar week.

The Hornets entered the week on a five-game losing streak and are still just 5-10 on the season. This was a bad series to drop right before SEC play begins.

The Tigers are now 12-5 on the year. Last year, they didn't pick up their fifth-loss until April 12. The 2023 season didn't see them pick it up until April 6.

No one is asking this team to be perfect, but it is certainly not a good sign to have this bad a week so early into the season.

LSU had simply no answer for Hornets starter Carson Timothy. Timothy entered the game with a 2.19 career ERA over 12.1 innings pitched, which is a small but impressive sample size. Still, that is no excuse for the Tigers being shut down by him.

It wasn't until the seventh inning and nearly 100 pitches that they started to build a little bit of momentum. Timothy finished the game with just one unearned run allowed on five hits with on walks. It wasn't just bad luck, LSU just didn't have many good at-bats.

No one picked up more than one hit. Only Jake Brown and Zach Yorke reached base more than once. The offense has been supremely uninspiring after starting as one of the best in the nation.

The Tigers now have just one more game against the Creighton Blue Jays on Tuesday before SEC play begins on the road against the Vanderbilt Commodores next weekend.
