The goal on Saturday night was clear for the LSU Tigers. Win and win big. Mission accomplished as the Tigers take down the Southeastern Lions by a score of 56-10.

There are no more questions about the LSU defense. Everything left up in the air seems to be on the offensive side of the ball. While this wasn't a perfect showing, it was easily the best performance they have had and it came against a team that they should have handled with this much ease.

Starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier left the game early, but went 25-of-31 for 273 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in this one. He ended with just 10 rushing yards, but that was due to a pair of big losses on sacks. The quarterback was able to show off the wheels on a 26-yard run.

With the news of his fall camp torso injury adding some context to the early-season struggles, Nussmeier needed to come out and dominate in this one. Brian Kelly stated that his quarterback was finally looking healthy again in practice and that showed in the game.

The deep ball still wasn't working with great success, which could be troubling against better opponents. It is hard to complain too much when they executed consistently on the night after going three-and-out on the first drive.

The biggest issue that can still be nit-picked upon during this dominant win is the offensive line play. The run game still doesn't create much consistent push and the pass-blocking left a bit to be desired.

Few opponents are going to be better matchups across the board for the offensive line than the FCS school they faced this week and they still struggled at times.

Ju'Juan Johnson had the best night of the running backs and that was mostly thanks to his hard-nosed running. He picked up 43 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries. Harlem Berry also had some nice runs once the backups came in.

A 42-0 lead after the first drive of the second half allowed the Tigers to look to the backups, which provided a glimpse into the future.

Mississippi State Bulldogs transfer Michael Van Buren got his first action since transferring over and looked dynamic. He went 10-of-12 for 122 yards with a touchdown through the air. He also showed off some shiftiness on the ground with 16 yards and a score on four rushes.

Maybe the most exciting backup to get involved was redshirt freshman Jelani Watkins. Watkins has elite, elite speed and will be the next one to take on that Zavion Thomas/Barion Brown role in the offense next season.

Overall, it was a relatively stress-free night in Baton Rouge. Much needed before the brutal SEC stretch begins next week against the Ole Miss Rebels.
