The worst-kept secret in college sports has been the LSU Tigers' interest in a reunion with former head basketball coach Will Wade. Now, per reports, the wheels are finally turning on making it happen.

CBS Sports' college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported the following on his show on Wednesday:

"All signs are pointing now that the LSU job is going to be open and they're going to part ways with Matt McMahon. And Will Wade is definitely on the verge of going back to Baton Rouge as LSU's head coach in what would be one of the more incredible, incredible reunions that we have seen in quite some time."

This report comes as the Tigers go after McNeese State athletic director Heath Schroyer as a "Senior Administrator," Rothstein also reported on Wednesday.

That is a major indicator of Wade coming, as both Schroyer and now-LSU president Wade Rousse were the ones who brought the coach back to the sport at McNeese after his 2022 termination.

Had Wade never gotten caught up in the controversy, he would have never been let go by the Tigers. He was an incredibly popular head coach and had the team moving in the right direction.

His termination led to LSU hiring McMahon, who has gone 60-70 since coming to Baton Rouge.

It is important to note that the Tigers have not yet actually fired McMahon, so this deal is not yet a completely done deal.

H/T to Matt Moscona, as he pointed out that Wade's $5 million buyout drops to $3 million on April 1, so LSU is likely to wait for that. That also leaves a lot of time for a lot of things to happen. Should anything happen to the Wade pursuit, McMahon would remain their head coach.
