With 82 days until kickoff for the LSU Tigers, it's time to highlight the next player to don that jersey number in Baton Rouge.
The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 82 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.
Here is a look at the past and present of No. 82 at LSU:
No. 82 - WR Roman Mothershed
Mothershed's role on this team is glaringly obvious. He comes in as a 6-foot-5 target who should act as a red zone target along with tight end Trey'Dez Green. Mothershed is certainly the tallest receiver in the room.
The big-bodied wideout signed with the Troy Trojans out of the JUCO Independence C.C. back in 2024, where he was overlooked in recruiting rankings. He wasn't exactly hyped up as a transfer either, as 247Sports ranked him a three-star and the No. 1,674 player in the portal.
It's not too shocking that he didn't earn higher recognition, given that he hasn't been super productive in college so far. He had four catches as a redshirt freshman in 2024, then went on to grab 25 catches for 259 yards and a score last season.
The immediate thought is that Mothershed will likely be more of a depth piece than an every-down receiver, but his height should help him find the field.
Early reports on the Alabama native from spring camp were good as well, saying that Mothershed was one of the best "highlight play" generators on the team.
Highlighting Former Players Who Wore No. 82
TE Jack Mashburn (2019-2022)
Mashburn is more of a great story than a star player. He started as a walk-on during the 2019 season, where he didn't find the field, and did enough dirty work in practice to find the field a couple of times in 2020 before breaking out in 2021. He went on to earn a scholarship.
WR DJ Chark (2014-2017)
Before Chark earned the No. 7 honors in his final season on campus, he was a depth receiver for a few years and wore No. 82. In his only year in 82, as a junior, he had 26 catches for 466 yards and three scores. He had 40 catches for 874 yards and three scores as a senior after changing his number. Chark went on to get drafted in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars and had a seven-year career with one Pro Bowl nod.
