With 42 days until kickoff for the LSU Tigers, it's time to highlight the next player to don that jersey number in Baton Rouge.

The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 42 days away.

As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.

Here is a look at the past and present of No. 42 at LSU:

No. 42 - LB Davhon Keys

The Tigers' starting linebacker duo of Whit Weeks and TJ Dottery has generated a ton of hype, for good reason. Sitting right behind them is Keys, who is one of the best third linebackers for a team in the country.

With Weeks dealing with so many injury issues last year, Keys saw the field a ton. He led the team with 92 total tackles last season. Three and a half went for a loss with half a sack, with two passes broken up and a forced fumble as well. He stepped up when the defenses needed him, and made plays.

Keys found early and often playing time in his career, becoming a starter down the stretch as a freshman. He is a very valuable type of player to have. Someone who is talented enough to play every down for most schools, but accepts a rotational role at LSU.

The Texas native is someone who is almost assuredly going to play at the next level. He is a little short for modern linebackers, but makes up for it with athleticism and a strong football IQ. He was a four-star coming out of high school and has certainly lived up that so far.

Expect to hear his name early and often this season. While he could end up going to the draft after this year, he could also be in line for a full-time starting role as a senior once Weeks leaves for the NFL.

Highlighting A Former Player Who Wore No. 42

K Colby Delahoussaye (2012-2015)

Delahoussaye come out of the gates strong in college, hitting 13 of his 14 field goal attempts as a freshman. That happened to be the peak of his career, overall, but it was still enough to get him into Tigers record books as one of the best individual seasons ever. He'd probably fall somewhere around the top 5 kickers in school history. He did gave a game-winner on his belt, hitting a 50-yard bomb to beat the Florida Gators on the road.
