With 47 days until kickoff for the LSU Tigers, it's time to highlight the next player to don that jersey number in Baton Rouge.
The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 47 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.
Here is a look at the past and present of No. 47 at LSU:
No. 47 - TE JD LaFleur
Much of the offensive depth hit the transfer portal after the coaching change, but LaFleur never wavered. It's not much of a shock, as he was born to play for the Tigers, following in his father's footsteps.
His father, David LaFleur, is one of the best tight ends in school history, putting up 71 catches for 881 yards and five scores. The career numbers aren't huge, but that's because of the position's history at the school. They weren't used as much in the receiving game as there were blockers, and LaFleur was an amazing blocker. He also wore No. 47.
He would go on to be named an All-American and was a two-time All-SEC tight end. He was a first-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 1997, who traded up to get him, but injuries and inconsistent production led to him having just a four-year career.
JD can certainly follow in his footsteps, as a blocker at least. He's a massive tight end, listed at 6-foot-5 and 254 pounds. That will clearly be his path to playing time, though he could have some sneaky athleticism as a former basketball player.
LaFleur was a four-star recruit out of high school and one of the best players from the state of Louisiana in his class. There will be expectations for him to perform at LSU.
The path to playing time is a little more complicated because of how much they have going on at tight end. Trey'Dez Green is the star right now, and they brought in a couple of players with more experience. They also have top tight end Ahmad Hudson currently committed. As a redshirt freshman, though, LaFleur has time to sit and develop.
Highlighting A Former Player Who Wore No. 47
1B Tommy White (2023-2024)
Well, this is a little bit of cheating, because there isn't a deep history of 47 on the football team and David LaFLeur was already highlighted, so it's time to take a trip over to the baseball field.
White was a prolific slugger in college, breaking the NCAA freshman record with 27 home runs. He hit 48 bombs with 175 RBI over two seasons with the Tigers and got drafted in the second round of the 2024 draft.
He had one of the biggest moment's in school history, a two-run walk off of Wake Forest after 11 innings of scoreless ball, to send LSU to the 2023 Men's College World Series, which they went on to win.
White was recently called up to the Majors, and had a double in the gap in his first game for his first career MLB hit.
