The LSU Tigers secured their first transfer portal commit, ex-Florida Gators guard Laila Reynolds.
The LSU Tigers have landed their first transfer portal commit as Laila Reynolds committed on Saturday afternoon, per On3's Talia Goodman.
Reynolds has spent three seasons with the Gators after coming to the school as a Top-20 high school recruit in the nation out of PG County, Maryland. She was a high school basketball standout who has improved each year of her college career.
Last season, Reynolds averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 steals as a starting guard for Florida. She took a backseat in the offense to Liv McGoll and Me'Arah O'Neal, which is a good sign, as she will probably not be an offensive leader on this Tigers squad.
The 6-foot-1 guard isn't much of a shooter, a career 20.3% from three-point range, but her size lends itself to rebounding well for her position and defense.
She will likely come off the bench at LSU, though, having her size at guard could come in handy if the Tigers can't find a ton of upgrades in the frontcourt in the portal. Either way, there will be a role open for her.
After the season ended, LSU expected to retain its guard depth. If that had happened, there wouldn't have been space for someone like Reynolds. Instead, the Tigers lost Jada Richard, Bella Hines, Divine Bourrage and Kailyn Gilbert to the portal. That was a bit of a surprise.
Reynolds won't be the biggest name that Kim Mulkey and crew go after, but she is a solid piece to the puzzle.
