The LSU Tigers had five former players who made their team's opening rosters.

The LSU Tigers Men's Basketball program doesn't produce as many pro players as the football program, but there are still a couple of former stars who did make the leap to the league.

The 2026/2027 NBA season is underway on Tuesday afternoon, so teams have mostly finalized their rosters. There are five different ex-Tigers who made the opening night roster for their teams. Two former LSU players who are now coaches: the recently retired Garrett Temple, who is now a Dallas Mavericks assistant, and early 2000s forward Darnell Lazare, who is a Memphis Grizzlies assistant.

Here are where all of the players are this year:

*Sacramento Kings G/F Ben Simmons

Getting this out of the way now, Simmons did make the Kings' initial roster, but he's not going to be playing this year. Heartbreakingly, after a great preseason, Simmons tore his Achilles in practice. The former first overall pick had been out of the league for a couple of years, but he eyed a comeback. He looked great, but his actual return will have to wait one more season. Sacramento is still going to keep him around.

Houston Rockets F Tari Eason

Eason is one of the most successful former LSU players in recent memory. He was a Will Wade standout and was the No. 17 overall pick by the Rockets. He has lived up to that billing for sure.

The 25-year-old just signed a five-year, $81.5 million extension with Houston. He has been a great 3-and-D player who can be useful either in the starting lineup or off the bench. His career has been slightly marred by some injuries over the past couple of seasons, but when he is healthy, he has been valuable. That's why the Rockets still extended him despite health concerns. It's also why he got less than he may have wanted.

Charlotte Hornets F/C Naz Reid

Reid had become a fan favorite for the Minnesota Timberwolves after signing with them back in 2019, after going undrafted. He has been an excellent backup center who can stretch the floor and is solid on the defensive end. This offseason, though, he was traded to the Hornets in the LaMelo Ball trade. He is expected to start for Charlotte this year.

New Orleans Pelicans F Trendon Watford

Watford made his return to Louisiana this offseason as a member of the Pelicans. He was on a non-guaranteed deal that has its next phase of money kick in on opening night. He is a perfect fit for that team's bench, but he won't be starting. Still, he is a good locker room guy and a do-it-all versatile piece for the coaching staff to use.

*Phoenix Suns C Duop Reath

Reath went undrafted back in 2018 after a few years with LSU. He began his professional career overseas, but came to the NBA in 2023 with the Portland Trail Blazers. He signed with the Phoenix Suns this past offseason and is going to be on a two-way deal to start the campaign. At 30, with a career average of 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds, he won't complain about any way he can make a roster.
