The LSU Tigers received a commitment from five-star point guard Reese Alston, son of former NBA player Rafer Alston.

The LSU Tigers Men's Basketball program is no longer playing around, landing a commitment from five-star point guard Reese Alston, the player announced on Thursday afternoon.

Alston is the No. 9 overall player in the 2027 class per the 247Sports rankings. He is the No. 4 point guard and the top recruit out of the state of Texas. He is the son of former NBA and streetball star Rafer Alston.

With his father's famous nickname of "Skip to My Lou," Alston is known as "Lil Skip" as he is a similar style of point guard, unsurprisingly. He is likely to be the engine of the Tigers' offense as soon as he steps on campus, taking over for Donovan Dent this year.

The Houston native is the second-highest-ranked commit of the modern recruiting era for LSU, falling behind only Ben Simmons. The third-highest is also in the 2027 class, fellow guard King Gibson.

This is a massive win for Will Wade and the Tigers, who are committed to turning LSU's basketball program into one of the best in the nation. The Tigers beat out the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, Tennessee Volunteers, and Wichita State Shockers.

Alston is a great playmaker for his teammates and is a shooting threat. At 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, he won't be expected to be too aggressive, though he is a great athlete who can get to the rim if he needs to. He described himself as a high-energy presence on the court.

At the very least, no matter what happens in Wade's first year, his second season is off to a very fun start. An offense with Alston should be the most fun to watch in a long time, and should do well to continue to build out this profile and help future recruiting efforts.

The duo of Alston and Gibson is going to lead to immediate great results for the Tigers, and has the backcourt already settled despite having two players this year who will not be returning. The next question will be how long they end up having that backcourt, as Alston is certainly a contender to be a one-and-done depending on how his freshman campaign goes.
