Ex-LSU Tigers star Angel Reese made WNBA history on Saturday, becoming the fastest player to reach 1,000 rebounds.
Fans of the LSU Tigers are used to seeing Angel Reese make basketball history at this point, but she continued to do so on Saturday as she set a WNBA record by becoming the fastest player to reach 1,000 rebounds.
It took Reese, who was traded to the Atlanta Dream this past offseason, just 79 games to make it to the milestone. In a bittersweet fashion, she did it against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Reese and Clark have been going head-to-head since their college days, when the Tigers took down the Iowa Hawkeyes en route to their championship.
It is also fitting that it was an offensive rebound that ended up pushing her past the mark, as that is how she has made her impact. It was a miss from her teammate that she grabbed over a defender. As she finished the bucket, she flexed, in typical Reese fashion.
She finished this game with 18 points, eight rebounds, an assist, two steals and a block.
Reese has had great individual success early in her career since being drafted No. 7 overall. She was named an All-Star in both of her first two seasons with the Chicago Sky and is on pace to make it to a third with the Dream.
The 24-year-old is averaging a career-high 15.1 points this year to go along with a whopping 12.2 rebounds per game. She has averaged 12.7 rebounds per game so far in the WNBA. She has also gotten much more efficient on offense, which is only making her more valuable.
Everyone in Baton Rouge expected Reese to make a quick impact on the league after getting drafted. That is exactly what she has done, and is still in the very early stages of what is setting up to be a very storied career.
