Despite a turbulent season, the LSU Tigers remain a premier talent pipeline, with current stars and elite commits climbing prospect rankings ahead of the 2026 MLB draft.
The LSU Tigers finding so much trouble this year is a bit shocking, because the team is never lacking for talent. As the college season winds down, MLB teams are preparing for July's draft and will have a few Tigers on their boards.
While this won't be a Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews situation with two LSU players going with the top two picks, there will still be two players with the potential to go in the first round.
Keith Law of The Athletic (subscription required) recently put out a big board of the Top 100 prospects for the 2026 MLB draft. There were two current Tigers stars listed, as well as two signees that Jay Johnson would love to see get through the draft and to Baton Rouge:
No. 10 - OF Derek Curiel
Curiel may not have brought the power increase that he expected to this season, but he still did more than enough to prove to MLB teams why he should be a first round pick. He has remained an on-base machine while showcasing plus defense in center field.
The 20-year-old has slashed .344/.424/.516 with six home runs, 45 RBI and 13 stolen bases this year. That is more than enough to show he can at least handle his own at the plate and find value even if the power stroke never truly comes.
No. 33 - Signee LHP Logan Schmidt
Schmidt is a tough call to get through the draft and into college because some believe he could even go high in the first round. If that happens, he will certainly take that route. He is certainly a raw talent, but can already get into the high-90s with his fastball and pairs it with a dangerous slider and a deep pitch mix. High school southpaws are much more likely to be drafted highly than righties.
No. 41 - OF Jake Brown
Brown going down was one of the signals that this LSU baseball season was not meant to be. He was so good when healthy; it's a shame that his final year in Baton Rouge ended up getting cut short.
In 41 games, he hit 16 home runs and slashed .309/.404/.642. It was as good a year at the plate as could be expected. There's no telling where his numbers would have ended up had he finished the season out.
The sell is easy for MLB teams, especially with the power burst he showed this year. He is an extremely well-rounded outfielder.
No. 55 - Signee OF/1B Will Adams
Adams has a fantastic lefty swing and could end up being a plus defender both at first base and in the outfield. He has a much better chance of reaching campus than Schmidt, with a wide range of draft expectations. It's all about just how much of a power ceiling that his swing has, he could follow a similar path to Tre' Morgan.
