The SEC announced the All-Conference teams and four LSU Tigers were honored.
The LSU Tigers baseball season is all but over, with the SEC tournament on the horizon. Ahead of the tournament, the conference has announced the honors for the All-SEC teams and individual awards this season.
Given that the Tigers finished the year 29-27 and 9-21 in conference play, it's not surprising that they aren't all over the ballots. They did still have some stars who had strong performances, though, and four players ended up being on at least one of the teams.
Here's where the four LSU players ended up:
OF Derek Curiel
Second Team
All-Defensive Team
While Curiel didn't have a step-up in power like many expected to see this season, he still ended up performing at a high level. He slashed .345/.424/.511 with six home runs, 45 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
What was a good change for him this year was moving to center field. As planned, he showcased his high defensive ceiling to go along with his hit-first skillset at the plate. He played fantastically on defense and should still be an early first-round pick in the MLB draft.
SS Steven Milam
Second Team
All-Defensive Team
Milam struggled heavily early in the campaign, but he caught fire towards the end and ended up actually posting slightly better numbers than he did a year ago. He slashed .300/.416/.516 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI.
As always, he was an ace on defense. He committed a career-low three errors with incredible range and IQ. Milam remained a leader throughout his time at LSU. He has another year of eligibility, but is also weighing a move to the MLB draft.
C/DH/1B Omar Serna Jr.
Freshman All-SEC Team
Serna was always an exciting potential bat, but he showed that he was far more ready than anyone expected. Even Jay Johnson was surprised as how quickly he performed and knew early that he wouldn't be able to take him out of the lineup, meaning he played a few different roles.
The slugger posted a .306/.390/.541 slash line with nine home runs and 37 RBI. He's going to be crucial to the Tigers' offensive plans moving forward.
OF/1B Mason Braun
Freshman All-SEC Team
Braun didn't come on as quickly as Serna, but he ended the season just as red-hot and looks like a natural at the plate. He slashed .318/.480/.439 with three home runs and 21 RBI. The most impressive thing is that he drew 34 walks with just 32 strikeouts.
