These four LSU Tigers should see the field more against McNeese this weekend; they can take advantage of their snaps.
The LSU Tigers have had a rough stretch of injury luck and are planning to use this weekend's game against the McNeese Cowboys as a chance to get back to health.
"We'll be extremely cautious this week all around, because it's just the schedule you play," said head coach Lane Kiffin at his Monday press conference. "It feels like we've played a whole season already and we have seven SEC games to go."
While the Tigers can't completely throw the Cowboys to the side, they also have plenty of talent to have some depth players step up and still be fine to dominate the game.
QB Landen Clark
Sam Leavitt had his best game of the season as a passer last weekend, but it only happened because his leg was hurt the entire game. They need him to get back to 100% because the added confidence in his arm will combine with his playmaking skills on the ground to reach his ceiling.
This could be a great spot to give Clark more opportunity. He has been exciting as a runner and has potential as a passer, but has only really seen action in garbage time as a backup. So far, he has completed 7-of-15 through the air for 109 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, he has run the ball 16 times for 83 yards and three scores.
CB Michael Turner Jr.
Turner played both sides in high school due to his athleticism. He's been focusing on cornerback since coming to college and seems to be developing well. Now a redshirt sophomore, he could be ready for more opportunity.
The defensive back made the most of limited chances last week as he walked out with an interception. Dashawn Spears is out for the year, and Ja'Keem Jackson missed the last game; the Tigers need their defensive back depth to step up.
DE Kolaj Cobbins
Princewill Umanmielen and Jordan Ross have transformed the starting unit with an elite pass rush, but there hasn't been much notable depth outside of Dylan Carpenter. Cobbins is another redshirt sophomore who looks to be ready for more snaps.
Cobbins was a four-star linebacker coming out of high school and a top athlete in Louisiana. He had a nice, small stint against Louisiana Tech, but hasn't seen the field much. There are younger pass rushers, but now seems like the right time for Cobbins to see a bigger role.
RB Harlem Berry
Kiffin has made it clear that he wants to see players continue to fight for reps. It was a disappointing spring for Berry. He started the year third on the running back depth chart, but last week was a step in the right direction.
Against the Texas A&M Aggies, Berry had seven rushes for 58 yards. It was a much more promising showing than he has had so far this season. Stacy Gage had been the backup to Dilin Jones, but he hasn't had a ton of down-to-down success. If Berry can continue to grow as a blocker, he should see the field more.
