Rain pushes LSU Tigers-South Carolina Gamecocks showdown to Saturday.
The LSU Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks will no longer play their scheduled game on Friday night, due to inclement weather. There will now be a double-header played on Saturday, with games at 1 pm and 6:30 pm CT, the team announced on Friday afternoon.
This is a huge series for the Tigers. They currently sit at 6-15 in conference play and have been swept three weekends in a row. While it's clear that this team is no where near the level that last year's was, there is still a lot of talent.
If they can get to the NCAA tournament, they will at least have a chance to go on a run. The problem is, depsite entering the year as the No. 1 team in the country, that tournament berth is no longer guaranteed.
LSU, 25-21 on the year as a whole, needs to close the year out strong with a solid showing to get into the regional round of the tournament. That starts with this weekend's series against the Gamecocks. They then have two more weekend series against the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs. There is also one more mid-week against the Tulane Green Wave.
If they can't get past South Carolina cleanly, though, then it all feels like it would be for naught. The Gamecocks are 22-24 on the season, but actually have a better conference record than the Tigers at 7-14. They have the worst offense in the SEC and an average pitching staff. LSU should be able to take care of business at home.
