The LSU Tigers got a commitment from former Tulane Green Wave star outfielder Jason Wachs on Sunday.
The LSU Tigers have hit the transfer portal hard after last season's disappointment, landing another star with ex-Tulane Green Wave outfielder Jason Wachs committing on Sunday. Reports had surfaced on Saturday that the Tigers were in the mix, and it didn't take long to become official.
Immediate expectations are that Wachs will take over in centerfield for Derek Curiel, who is all but certainly going to the MLB draft. In an unexpected turn of events, LSU might even be upgrading their bat in center despite Curiel's career .349/.452/.526 slash line.
Last year, for the Green Wave, Wachs slashed .327/.453/.574 last season with nine home runs, 54 RBI, and four stolen bases. He had an even number of strikeouts and walks, 38, which is a good sign. Obviously, he will need to do it consistently against SEC pitching, but Wachs is a great bat.
The Tigers got a close-up look at the damage he can do in Alex Box Stadium when he went 3-for-5 with three RBI, a double and a home run just last month in one of the final games of the season.
The 20-year-old was a little overlooked coming out of high school in Florida and decided to sign with Tulane, where he was immediately one of the team's best sluggers. Now he has earned the opportunity to go up to the next level and put on for MLB draft scouts even further than he already has.
This could end up being the final major offensive transfer portal addition that they make. If it is, then they knocked this class out of the park, at least on paper. They won't get too excited too quickly this time around after what happened last season, as the No. 1 team in the country coming in.
