The LSU Tigers are backing up softball coach Beth Torina through calls for change.
The LSU Tigers softball season came to an end after falling to the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide in the NCAA Super Regional round, failing to reach the Women's College World Series for the ninth straight year.
Head coach Beth Torina has been in Baton Rouge since 2012. While they had some early success, making it to the WCWS in four of her first six years at the helm, things have stalled out since. With each growing season, fanbase calls for change get louder, but don't expect a change to be coming any time soon.
During a recent sit-down interview with Jacques Doucet of WAFB, Tigers athletic director Verge Ausberry showed support for Torina, shutting down any idea that LSU would be moving on.
"No complaints with Beth Torina," said Ausberry. "She's done a great job. Her team does well off the field."
This past season, the Tigers went 40-`19 overall and 13-11 against SEC opponents. They were a solid team, but ran into a buzzsaw with the Crimson Tide. They've had far worse teams, but calls for her to be fired have mostly focused on the lack of ability to take that next step as a program.
They've already lost their top player to the portal in Jayden Heavener, along with a couple of other standouts. They seem to have another great recruiting class in store, Ausberry says its the best in the country.
Torina's job seems to be in no danger as of now. Perhaps the school could be waiting before firing another coach and having to pay another payout, considering everything else that's been happening around the athletic program.
Torina isn't actively embarassing the school, they just can't seem to take that next step. Her current contract runs through 2028, perhaps that is when LSU will look at making a change.
