The LSU Tigers coaching search has ramped up drastically over the last 24 hours since the reports surrounding OIe Miss head coach Lane Kiffin's family being in Baton Rouge and Kiffin appearing to be the Tigers' top target.
LSU isn't the only school vying for Kiffin, though, as the Rebels try to keep him in Oxford and the Florida Gators attempt to lure him to Gainesville.
In the midst of Kiffin being the most popular name in college football, he appeared on the popular ESPN broadcast "The Pat McAfee Show" to talk about some rumors and his plans for the rest of the season.
They didn't get into a ton of important stuff during their 20-minute conversation of mostly fluff, but there was one big one that was covered.
It had been reported that Ole Miss had given its coach an ultimatum, requiring Kiffin to provide an answer on whether he's staying before this year's edition of the Egg Bowl on Friday, November 28. That would give the coach 10 days at the time of writing to decide between the three schools.
Kiffin, however, shut those rumors down.
"That's absolutely not try. There's been no ultimatum, anything like that at all. I don't know where that came from. We're having a blast, I love it here," said Kiffin before motioning over Rebels running back Kewan Lacy to join him on camera to show some solidarity.
The Ole Miss coach encouraged fans to enjoy the 10-1 start and the bye week, stating that this is everything that their program has been working towards.
Nothing else was really worth noting from the appearance. It was mostly just Kiffin acting like there were no discussions going on with other schools and focusing on their game next Friday. Which is not shocking at all.
This entire thing is a game of leverage. There are very few moves made that don't have a distinct purpose in negotiations, especially when Kiffin has a high-profile agent like Jimmy Sexton.
He even mentioned that he was doing yoga with Rebels athletic director Keith Carter earlier that day.
Until Kiffin actually does reach a decision on his coaching future, don't expect much noise from the Tigers surrounding other candidates.
It appears that the 50-year-old is their top choice and they are doing everything in their power to land him. He is the biggest name in this coaching cycle, a conversation that LSU feels they belong in.
If he says no, they still have some other good options to consider like Eli Drinkwitz, Jon Sumrall and Kenny Dillingham. The Tigers are going to try their best to make sure that doesn't happen, though.
