The LSU Tigers have been extra busy over the last couple of days getting their transfer portal class together before it closes after Friday. It hasn't been just complimentary pieces, though, as they have just landed a big fish.
Former Ohio State Buckeyes safety Faheem Delane committed to the Tigers on Friday, per Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. Delane was a former top-75 recruit in the 2025 class and is notably the younger brother of former LSU star Mansoor Delane.
Mansoor spent just one year with the Tigers, but he had one of the best individual seasons a cornerback has ever had at the school. He is set to become a top-15 NFL draft pick in April. It's no surprise that his younger brother would want to come play for the same defensive coordinator and secondary coach.
As for Faheem, 247Sports had him as the No. 55 overall player in the 2025 class in their composite rankings. He was the fifth-best safety and second-best player out of Maryland. He was much higher-ranked than his brother, but shouldn't have to carry expectations of being as elite.
Delane appeared in 13 games for the Buckeyes as a freshman, so he won't have a redshirt year. He was mostly a special teamer. Per Pro Football Focus, he was on the field for 81 snaps and was targeted three times, allowing three catches for 28 yards. He mostly stood out in the run game with six stops.
He joins an already strong safety room that includes Ty Benefield, Tamarcus Cooley and Dashawn Spears. They did need more depth after getting hit hard by the transfer portal, and they got elite players to fill in some of those spots. It's going to be fun to see how Blake Baker, Jake Olsen and Corey Raymond use these players.
