A crippling injury sidelines the LSU Tigers' offensive spark plug, Jake Brown, ending his season and career in Baton Rouge.
The LSU Tigers baseball season has gone from bad to worse, as star outfielder Jake Brown is now out for the year as he undergoes surgery to repair a broken hamate bone.
Brown, at times, has been the only thing working for the Tigers' offense, delivering clutch moment after clutch moment. Without him in the lineup, the already inconsistent group of hitters will only get worse.
The 21-year-old has posted a .309/.404/.642 slash line with 16 home runs, 49 RBI and nine stolen bases this year. He hasn't been a "surprise" per se, but he has definitely performed better than a lot of people expected.
He came out of high school as a 16th-round draft selection and was the best player in the state of Louisiana, though a lot of people thought he'd become a pitcher. He had a 1.71 ERA as a senior.
It didn't take long for him to become a slugger, though, with Jay Johnson seeing the best potential possible with him. Since this very likely marks the end of his time in Baton Rouge, he finishes his career with a .304/.398/.553 career slash line with 28 homeruns, 110 RBI and 23 stolen bases.
Now, Brown will likely end up as a first or second-round pick. He is a well-balanced slugger with good size at 6-foot-2, 206 pounds. He has good speed and has consistently shown an improving power stroke. There might not be one thing he's better at than everyone else, but there also isn't anything major that he is particularly awful at.
