These four McNeese St. Cowboys could make an impact this weekend against the LSU Tigers.
The LSU Tigers are going to be near 50-point favorites this weekend as they face the McNeese St. Cowboys. They should cruise to a victory, but need to make sure that they don’t completely overlook them.
Just a couple of a weeks ago, the Tigers were up just 10-7 at halftime against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. After that ugly performance, Lane Kiffin will certainly have his players locked in.
That being said, there will still probably be plenty of depth players seeing the field as well. Here are the Cowboys players that need to keep track of:
RB Omiri Wiggins
LSU has yet to meet its match at running back this year, holding one of the top rushing defenses in the nation. Wiggins is a fun player, though, and is hard to bring down.
The senior has spent time between and JUCO and Louisiana Tech before joining McNeese this season. He’s averaging 75 yards per game, with a lot of that production after first contact. He’s mostly a home-run threat as two of his three touchdowns have been on rushes of 74 yards or more.
CB Kenyatta Fleet
One of the main reasons that the Tigers had so much trouble in the first half was because of Sam Leavitt throwing three interceptions. If LSU isn’t careful with the ball, Fleet is someone who could make them pay.
So far this year, Fleet has been targeted 12 times and forced three breakups. He doesn’t have an interception yet, but is clearly seeing the ball well. He has been an impressive true freshman.
QB Jake Strong
Devin Lippold was the starting quarterback, but he’s out for the year. Now, they’ll turn to Strong.
While he hasn’t had the most impactful career to this point, he’s a former Top-15 QB recruit and started out at Texas Tech. There is clearly some potential in his arm, even if it hasn’t been fully realized.
He has completed 59% of his career passes for 2,329 yard with 15 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. He is also a sneaky athlete who had over 500 yards and 7 touchdowns last season.
The Tigers defense was able to corral Marcel Reed last week, though, so they should be fine. Rushing quarterbacks have gotten to LSU in the past, but this defense feels different.
