After the No. 8 Ole Miss Rebels took down the No. 7 LSU Tigers on Saturday night.
The LSU Tigers fell to the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday night in a meeting of two teams within the AP top 10. Given that it was a close-fought game, it's no surprise that both teams remain in the top 10 following Sunday's update.
The AP Poll has released their Week 3 voting results and it saw the Tigers drop just three spots to No. 10. The Rebels jumped up a couple of spots to No. 4. Three of the top four teams are SEC schools right now, and LSU is the fifth-highest rated team in the conference.
All this proves is what was already clear after then game. This loss isn't going to derail this season, unless they let it. The Tigers still control their own destiny this year, but the performances they have put together (at least on offense) these past two weeks are not going to cut it.
Sam Leavitt and the offense need to start these games quicker. They dominated the second half against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, and they found something that worked on the ground against Ole Miss to give them another chance to win, but who knows what could have happened had they found some rhythm in the first two quarters.
The offensive line play was miserable on Saturday, allowing 12 pressures. The interior was eaten alive by Will Echoles and Weston Davis had another struggling night. This group could truly be the Achilles heel of this roster.
Dilin Jones has been a great find in the transfer portal, but imagine what he could do with some running lanes being opened up.
Just an uninspiring beginning to the year for an offense that was supposed to be prolific. They now could also be without top option Trey'Dez Green for an extended period of time, given that he was on crutches before the end of the game.
The defense is less worrying, but Trinidad Chambliss was able to tear apart Blake Baker's zone coverage all night long. Chambliss was 21-of-27 for 258 yards and two touchdowns before halftime in this game.
Part of that was how gassed the defense had got, the pass rush came back in the second half, but there was also poor execution on plays as well.
A lot to look at for all of LSU's coaches after this game. They will face the No. 23 Texas A&M Aggies next week, who will be motivated after a disappointing loss to the Kentucky Wildcats.
