Despite coaching uncertainty, the LSU Tigers secured Australian pro guard Owen Foxwell for 2026, adding seasoned international talent to the Tigers' backcourt.
Though the job status of LSU Tigers Men's Basketball coach Matt McMahon is up in the air, it hasn't stopped his staff from continuing to hit the recruiting trails. They just snagged a big get for the 2026 class.
Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress reported on Monday night that the Tigers would be adding Australian pro guard Owen Foxwell to next year's squad.
McMahon is no stranger to going overseas to try to find talent for his roster. It's on the rise around the sport, as the game of basketball grows worldwide, and McMahon is at the forefront.
Looking at this year's team: Max Mackinnon transferred over from the Portland Pilots, but he's from Australia. Pablo Tamba is from Spain. Mike Nwoko is from Canada. Ron Zipper was an Israeli pro. Marcus Vaughns is another Aussie. Owen Patrick, LSU's Associate Head Coach, was raised in and coached in Australia.
Foxwell is a 22-year-old who has been in the NBL since 2021. He has averaged 7.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 42.0/36.2/74.0 shooting splits.
That's mostly weighed down by his development years, though. This season, those numbers are up to 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and now 1.3 steals on 41.1/35.2/80.0 splits.
He is the older brother of current Portland Pilots star Joel Foxwell, who is averaging 16.0 points and 6.8 assists per night.
This is a more-than-solid addition for McMahon, making the Tigers' backcourt really interesting on paper for next season. Foxwell brings a ton of pro-level experience and will work alongside a returning, healthy DJ Thomas.
This could all change if LSU decides to move in a different direction at head coach. For now, though, it certainly makes next year a little more exciting.
