Kim Mulkey and Dawn Staley are two women who are no strangers to making history. They'll both be making history when they meet on February 14, for the highly anticipated matchup between the LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks.
In a release from ESPN on Sunday, the network announced that it would be sending the College Gameday Covered crew to Baton Rouge for the matchup. The game is set to tip at around 7:30 pm CT.
This will be the first time that a Women's Basketball game airs in the Saturday primetime spot on ABC. A note that shows just how much the game has grown in recent years.
This matchup has already been highly anticipated in years past between the two schools and the women's basketball world. Now, it expands to more of a national stage.
Despite all of the success Mulkey has had at the helm of the Tigers' program, she has still not been able to beat the Gamecocks since coming to Baton Rouge. The last time that LSU beat South Carolina was at home back in January of 2012 in Nikki Fargas' first season.
This could be the year where they finally break the curse, but it won't be easy. The Tigers did lose their first two games of SEC play, but have been dominant since then. They just beat a top-25 Alabama Crimson Tide team by 40.
South Carolina has beaten one of the teams that beat LSU, the Vanderbilt Commodores, but the Tigers have also defeated the lone team that beat the Gamecocks, the Oklahoma Sooners.
