LSU Tigers Star Guard DJ Thomas To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery cover image

LSU Tigers star guard DJ Thomas is sidelined for the season after a devastating foot injury.

It seems like nothing has gone right for Matt McMahon's LSU Tigers squads as he just lost another star player with DJ Thomas Jr. set to undergo season-ending surgery on his left foot, the team announced on Saturday afternoon.

In 16 games played this season, Thomas averaged 15.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists on 45.9/30.2/83.3 shooting splits.

McMahon said this in a statement:

"Since arriving on campus and earning his captain’s role, DJ has been a great teammate and a relentless competitor. He makes everyone in our program better. I admire the toughness and fight DJ has shown since suffering his foot injury. He has done everything in his power to work through the pain and get back on the court. I’m disappointed for DJ that his season has come to an end. We look forward to supporting him through his recovery."

Thomas suffered the injury before SEC play even began, but missed the first few conference games. He came back for three games before re-injuring his foot, and now he's out for the year.

It's an unfortunate break as this team was clearly better with Thomas running the point. He was always supposed to be the engine. Without him, things just look harder.

The Tigers sit at 14-10 on the year and just 2-9 in conference play. With just seven games left and the season seemingly gone, it's probably best for him to push it and put next year in jeopardy.

Only time will tell when he comes back next year, if it is in an LSU uniform or not. Another underperforming campaign could spell the end for McMahon in Baton Rouge.
