The Seattle Mariners are taking an LSU Tigers star early for the second straight season, selecting outfielder Jake Brown with the No. 65 overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft.

Brown was having an outstanding junior campaign in Baton Rouge before suffering a wrist injury that cut it short. Still, he was able to put up 16 HR and 49 RBI with a .309/.404/.642 slash line.

While he might not be considered a five-tool player, he does just about everything well. That power jump that he saw this past season answered one of the only real question marks. The Mariners have developed some great lefty swings, so this is an exciting result for Brown.

The Lake Charles native was drafted in the 16th round coming out of high school in Sulphur, La. He instead opted to go to college and it paid off handsomely as he jumps up to the second round.

There were some murmurs that he might go back to college after his injury, with hopes of becoming a first rounder, but it became clear a while back that he wouldn't be heading to college again.

Both of the first two Tigers college players taken have been by teams who have previously drafted out of LSU in recent years. Seattle took Kade Anderson early last year and he has gone on to have a superb start to his minor league career. This is another program who is clearly a fan of what Jay Johnson is doing in Baton Rogue.
