Judge Charlotte Sweeney made all Class of 2022 college athletes eligible for play next season, which should include forward RJ Luis.

The LSU Tigers men's basketball team just got some great news to go in their favor, as the the Class of 2022 college athletes just received an extra year of eligibility from Judge Charlotte Sweeney.

Sweeney, a U.S. District Court of Colorado judge, approved an injunction on Friday that would allow all players impacted by the 5-for-5 ruling to play while the lawsuit goes on. This goes for all players who graduated high school in 2022 and began to play in the 2022/2023 season. That describes RJ Luis, a star forward who is trying to win his eligibility back and play for the Tigers this season.

The NCAA still has to implement this ruling, meaning there are a few more steps, but this really should mean all arrows pointing towards him suiting up in Baton Rouge next year. That is music to the ears of new head coach Will Wade. Luis has the potential to make LSU a legit squad.

The Florida native started his college career in 2022 with UMass. He came out strong as a freshman and then went on to star for Rick Pitino and the St. John's Red Storm. Back in 2024/2025, he helped lead the Storm in the NCAA tournament. He was an All-American and a true Mid-Major star.

The Tigers are deploying an interesting roster full of different transfers and ex-professionals. They also are going to be an group that hasn't played together much, so having someone with experience in leading a team to success would be a major confidence builder for that squad.

LSU won't get everyone they signed this offseason, but it looks like they'll get one of the most important.
